CAMP DESCRIPTIONS
AGES 3-5
Camp are 9:00am - 11:30am, Monday-Friday.
Off to Australia: Australia’s giant coral reef is home to some very cool and colorful creatures. Some even eat the coral. Yuck! Explore the creatures big and small as we look and touch corals of all shapes and sizes. See if you can spot the hidden animals that are hiding in the Great Barrier Reef.
Camp Dates: June 11-18, July 19-23

Movin’ and Groovin’: Can you jump like a wallaby? Can you swim like an otter? Play the animal hokey pokey with us as we learn how different animals move about. Waddle, wiggle, strut and giggle your way through the zoo and see some of your favorite animal friends.

Tall and Small: There are animals that are big and there are animals that are small. How can they live together and how do they get along? Make your very own binoculars to explore the homes of the gentle giants and the wee ones of the Blank Park Zoo.

Surfin’ Safari: Surf’s Up! Join us this week as we splash our way through the zoo! We will discover where on earth we can find water, as well as how humans and animals use water to survive. Cool off with us and enjoy fun crafts and water activities, and learn about our aquatic friends here at the Blank Park Zoo!

Bird Brains: What’s the word on the wing? Birds are everywhere; on land, in the sea and in the air. Learn about the birds in your backyard and make them a special treat. Discover the birds around the zoo from the funny flamingos to the hilarious penguins. Special guests will visit your class and you will get to see some birds up close!

Gross Me Out!: Did you know a gecko can lick its own eyeballs? Discover what’s slimy, slippery, sloppy, stinky and more at the Blank Park Zoo! We’ll learn all about the animals at the zoo and some of their not-so-pleasant quirks! Join us for a week of messy mayhem and foul fun as we uncover what’s so gross about the zoo!

Outback Australia: G’day mate! Can you speak with an Australian accent? Join us in our Outback Adventure as we learn the lingo and try to speak as the people of Australia do. We will uncover the animal celebrities of Australia as we learn about the kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, wombats and other Australian animals.

Defense! Defense! Defense!: Animals have a lot of cool ways to protect themselves in the wild. Explore different places where animals live and how they protect themselves from the climate, predators and the environment they live in. Travel around the zoo, check out animal adaptations, then use your new knowledge to play the ultimate predator/prey tag game.

Wild & Wacky Water: Slip ‘n slide your way through the zoo as we discover the importance of water all around the world. Find out about different sources of water on Earth, and discover how the animals at the Blank Park Zoo use water to stay cool in the summer! You’ll enjoy water games and rafts throughout the week, and one very special “slip-sliding” afternoon!

Animal Art: See how animals have inspired artists from around the world. Let the awesome animals inspire you as we brush up on our artistic abilities. Use a variety of materials to create art projects. You may even receive some help from one of our animal friends. This is a great chance to let your imagination run WILD!

Photo Safari: need to polish your photo taking techniques before summer vacation or do you just enjoy taking pictures? Join us for this fun filled week as we learn tips and tricks of great photography. Trek around the zoo capturing animals at their best. Then put you photos together to create a great keepsake of our animals friends to take home at the end of the week. Bring your own digital cameras or use one of ours.

Scales and Tails: Snakes, lizards and alligators have one thing in common, they are reptiles! Investigate some of the most unique and prehistoric animals on earth; the biggest, the most dangerous, the strongest and the most poisonous! Enjoy visits from our reptile collection including the Blue Tongue Skink!

Who’s the Boss: Who rules the animal kingdom, girls or boys? BOTH! Some animals have a very strict hierarchy. In a lion pride, the male is king but in a beehive the girl is queen. Yet some animals live alone. Learn who rules the roost within your favorite animal group.

ONLY Australia!: Did you know that Australia is the ONLY country that is also a continent? It is the largest island and the smallest continent with diverse ecosystems and animals that cannot be found anywhere else on Earth! These are just a few things that are unique to Australia. Discover how the people, animals and habitiats make Australia unlike any other place in the world.

Makin’ Waves: Join us this week for a hands-on water adventure at the Blank Park Zoo! Get a better understanding of our planet’s most important resource and how its quality affects living things on Earth. We’ll conduct water experiments, create cool crafts and cool off with fun water games. At the end of the week, be ready to be soaked as we slip ‘n slide the afternoon away!

GRADES 5-6
Full day camps from 9:00am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday
ZSI: Zoo Science Investigations: Get ready for some wild investigative science! Campers will use CSI skills and tools to solve real-world mysteries. Earn your badge and then discover which elusive critters have left behind some distinctive clues in a simulated animal investigation. Examine scat, tracks, bones and more as we crack the case. Finally, find out more about threats to animals and their environments and way we can help save the animals!

Mythbusters: Zoo Edition: Fact or Fiction? Porcupines shoot their quills. Parrots can talk. Opossums hang by their tails. We’ll work as a team to discover which statements are rue and which are false. You’ll observe animals and expert information from zookeepers. Then produce your own episode of Mythbusters to share with others!

Zoo Tycoon: Have you ever wondered what it takes to run a zoo? Join the fun as we explore what goes into making a zoo an exciting attraction! Talk with zookeepers and other zoo staff to find out what they do every day to make visitors come back for more. Use you new understanding to design a zoo exhibit. This fun-filled, behind-the-scenes camp will conclude with an open house for parents and friends to see what you have learned and developed for your zoo!

GRADE 7
Full day camp from 9:00am – 4:00pm, Monday –Friday
Junior Zookeeper: Want to learn how to be a zookeeper? Making diets, cleaning and enriching the animals are all part of what a zookeeper does every day. You will get a chance to tour some behind the scenes areas and help take care of the very animals that you get to see every day at the zoo!

Things to Know
Age and Grade Level
It is important to us that your child receives the best experience. As such, we hope that you will help us by honoring the age and grade level guidelines. Each camp is for children entering that grade level in the fall of 2010. For the ages 3 to 5 camps, your child MUST be potty-trained to be a part of the camp.
Supervised Additional Care
Before and after care is available from 7:30 to 9:00 am and from 4:00 to 5:30 pm for full-day campers in grades 1 to 7. It is not an extension of the camp. The cost for each supervised additional care session is $5/day am, and $5/day pm. A $5 late fee will be charged for every 15 minutes after 5:30 pm. There are no refunds for cancelling prepaid sessions.
Snack and Lunch
A snack will be provided for our half-day and full-day camps. Children participating in a full-day camp (Grades 1-7), will need to bring a sack lunch. Please note that refrigeration for lunches will not be provided. For your convenience, we are also offering lunches through the Zoo. You will receive more information about the Blank Park Zoo lunch options/menu in your confirmation package.
Drop-off/Pick-up
Check-in for each class begins 10 minutes before the start of class. Please honor our pick-up time.
For the safety of your children, we will only release your child to the person/s you list at drop-off each day. If there are emergencies/last-minute changes, please notify our camp instructors.
3-5 Year Olds: Drop-off and Pick-up will occur at the Banker's Trust Classroom Directional signs will be posted to direct you to the classroom.
Grades 1 to 7: drop-off and pick-up will occur in Pavillion 1, located next to the Bald Eagle Exhibit.
Registration, Confirmation and Cancellation
Pre-registration is required for all classes. All registrations must be received at least 7 days before class starts. After we process your registration, we will send you a confirmation letter. Please note that your registration is not confirmed until you receive this confirmation letter. Cancellations will not receive a refund.
T-shirts will be available for purchase the week of camp.
