CAMP DESCRIPTIONS
 
AGES 3-5
Camp are 9:00am - 11:30am, Monday-Friday.
 
Discover Madagascar: Did you enjoy the movie? Then you'll love learning fun facts about Madagascar and Africa. Come to the zoo and check out some of your favorite animals from these amazing places. You will also play fun games, make creative crafts and explore the zoo.
Camp Dates: June 15-19, July 20-24
Cost: $80 member/$120 non-member
 
I Like to Move It: Get up on your feet and move your body to the beat of the wild! Bob our head like a gopher tortoise. Swing like a gibbon. Explore how animlas use color, smells, touch and movement to talk to one another without saying a word.
Camp Dates: June 22-26, August 3-7
Cost: $80 member/$120 non-member
 
SOUNDS Like Fun!: Roar, hiss, screech! Learn about all the fun sounds that we hear at the zoo! Discover how animlas communicate with one another in the wild, and find out which animals are the loudest and quietest in the zoo. Get ready to have fun and make some noise this week at Blank Park Zoo!

Water Wonders: Where can we find water? What do we use water for? Come find out the answers to these questions and many more. You will enjoy crafts and fun water activities to cool off in the summer heat. Learn about animals that live in water all around the world and here at Blank Park Zoo!
Camp Dates: July 6-10, July 27-31

Birds of a Feather: Beaks, wings, and feet - this camp is for the birds! Learn about these winged wonders as we discover what makes birds so special. Examine feathers and eggs, and make your very own bird feeder. Visit with The Bird Man of Las Vegas and his flock of feathered friends from around the world. Then explore the many birds that call Blank Park Zoo home!

GRADES 1-2
Full day camps from 9:00am-400pm, Monday-Friday
 
Animal Vacations: Do you like to visit new places? Take a journey with us as we learn why animlas go on vacation. Some travel short distances and others travel a long way to find foo or better weather. This is called migration. We'll learn about different animlas and where they migrate to and why.
Camp Dates: June 15-19, July 6-10
Cost: $170 member/$220 non-member
 
Explore Madagascar: if you enjoyed the movie, then you'll love exploring the real animals and plants from Madagascar and Africa. Walk on the wild side as we compare the animals of the movie to the live animals here at the zoo. Play games and make some African crafts to take home.
Camp Dates: June 22-26, July 27-31

Wonders of the Night: Shhh...Who made that noise? Whose eyes are glowing in the trees? Some facinating animals come out at night. Come discover how they survive in the dark. Learn about adaptations these animals have in order to find food and stay safe.
Camp Dates: June 29-July 3, July 20-24
Cost: $170 member/$220 non-member
 
Wacky Waterways: Ponds, lakes and rivers are an important part of life for people and animals. come check out all the different waterways in Iowa. You'll learn what makes each waterway special and compare the differences and similarities. We'll play different water games each day, and then have one very wet "slip sliding" day.
Camp Dates: July 13-17, August 3-7

Buggin' Around: Bugs can be creepy and crawly, but they are always cool. You'll learn about some of nature's most interesting creatures. Compare the smallest to the biggest bugs, and the most colorful to the most poisonous bugs. Come and get an up-close look at some of the Blank Park Zoo's coolest bugs!

Full day camps from 9:00am-400pm, Monday-Friday
 
Nocturnal Adventures: What made that noise? Whose eyes are glowing in the dark? Come discover what happens outside at night while you're sleeping. Discover the amazing adaptations animals have to survive at night. Test your nocturnal skills against the animlas of the night.
Camp Dates: June 15-19, July 13-17
Cost: $170 member/$220 non-member
 
ZSI: Zoo Science Investigations: Do you have what it takes to an animal detective? Join our team of wildlife investigators as we use CSI skills and tools to solve real-world animal mysteries. Follow clues like trails, tracks, scat, bones and more that animals leave behind. Finally, find out about threats to animals and their environments, including ways we can help save the animals!
Camp Dates: June 22-26
Cost: $170 member/$220 non-member
 
World Travelers: Pack your comfy shoes and prepare for a whirlwind vacation around the world. We'll travel to the seven continents and learn about the plants and animals that live there. We will collect stickers for our passports and make a scrapbook of our amazing travel adventures.
Camp Dates: June 29-July3

Moving to Madagascar: Use all your map skills to travel to Madagascar and Africa. Locate them on a map, plan how you will travel there with a detailed description using longitude and latitude coordinates. Practice usuing a compass to get around the zoo and check out all the animals along the way!
Camp Dates: July 6-10, August 3-7

Wonderful Wetlands: Swamps, Bogs, and Marshes, Oh My! Come find our about the different types of wetlands and the cool plants and animals that live there. We'll play different water games each day and then have one very wet "slip-sliding" day.

Full day camps from 9:00am-400pm, Monday-Friday
 
Mythbusters: Zoo Edition:  True or False? Touching a frog or toad will give you warts. Oppossums hang by their tails. Giraffes clean their ears and eyes with their tongues. We'll work as a team to discover which statements are facts and which are fiction. You'll observe animals and get expert information from zookeepers. Then produce your own episode of Mythbusters to share with others!

Zoo Tycoon: Do you love animals and want to work in a zoo someday? Then come join the fun as we work with zoo staff to see what they do on a daily basis. You will use your new experiences and knowledge to design your own animal exhibit. This fun filled week will conclude with an open house for parents and friends to see what campers have learned and developed for their zoo.

ZSI: Zoo Science Investigators: Get ready for some wild investigative science! Campers will use CSI skills and tools to solve real-world mysteries. Discover which elusive critters have left behind some distinctive clues in a simulated animal investigation. Examine scat, tracks, bones and more as we crack the case. Finally, find out more about threats to animals and their environments and way we can help save the animals!

Things to Know
Age and Grade Level
It is important to us that your child receives the best experience. As such, we hope that you will help us by honoring the age and grade level guidelines. Each camp is for children entering that grade level in the fall of 2009. For the ages 3 to 5 camps, your child MUST be potty-trained to be a part of the camp.

Supervised Additional Care
Before and after care is available from 7:30 to 9:00 am and from 4:00 to 5:30 pm for full-day campers in grades 1 to 6. It is not an extension of the camp. The cost for each supervised additional care session is $5/day am, and $5/day pm. A $5 late fee will be charged for every 15 minutes after 5:30 pm. There are no refunds for cancelling prepaid sessions.

Snack and Lunch
A snack will be provided for our half-day and full-day camps. Children participating in a full-day camp (Grades 1-6), will need to bring a sack lunch. Please note that refrigeration for lunches will not be provided. For your convenience, we are also offering lunches through the Zoo. You will receive more information about the Blank Park Zoo lunch options/menu in your confirmation package.  

Drop-off/Pick-up
Check-in for each class begins 10 minutes before the start of class. Please honor our pick-up time.
For the safety of your children, we will only release your child to the person/s you list at drop-off each day. If there are emergencies/last-minute changes, please notify our camp instructors.  
3-5 Year Olds: Drop-off and Pick-up will occur at the Banker's Trust Classroom  Directional signs will be posted to direct you to the classroom. 
Grades 1 to 6: drop-off and pick-up will occur in Pavillion 1, located next to the Bald Eagle Exhibit. 

Registration, Confirmation and Cancellation
Pre-registration is required for all classes. All registrations must be received at least 7 days before class starts. After we process your registration, we will send you a confirmation letter. Please note that your registration is not confirmed until you receive this confirmation letter. Cancellations will not receive a refund. 

T-shirts will be available for purchase the week of camp.
