International Celebrity to Visit Blank Park Zoo
Des Moines (December 7, 2010) – Santa has informed Iowa’s Blank Park Zoo that he will be visiting to receive special wishes from children on December 11 and 18 from 10 am - 2 pm. The event is free with regular paid Zoo admission and is free for Zoo members. Guests are encouraged to bring a camera to the event to take pictures with Santa.
“We’re excited to have such a well-known celebrity visit the Blank Park Zoo,” said Ryan Bickel, zoo spokesperson. “This must be a busy time for him and we’re glad he could fit us into his schedule.”
Guests will enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, participate in holiday games and make crafts. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Discovery Center, and, if weather permits, visit some of the winter animals such as snow leopards, snow monkeys, and the Siberian tiger.
The public can also celebrate by giving gifts to the animals of the non-profit Blank Park Zoo. Visitors need to stop by a special ‘giving tree’ in the Zoo’s lobby and grab a gift tag. The ‘giving tree’ gift information is also available online at www.blankparkzoo.com. Each tag is labeled with an animal and their wish for this year as well as where to find the item.
In related news, Santa and zoo keepers will soon have a conference call to determine if the Blank Park Zoo’s penguins should be kept on the ‘naughty’ list again this year. One confidential source described the situation as ‘in flux’ and ‘it could go either way this year.’
The Blank Park Zoo is open daily all winter long, 10am to 3pm. The Zoo will be closed on December 24, 25 & January 1.
