Penguins - Naughty or Nice

Help Santa and the Zookeepers determine which list they should go on this year.

 For Immediate Release

Des Moines (December 21, 2010) – Iowa’s Blank Park Zoo released a video today asking the public to vote whether or not the Zoo’s penguins should appear on Santa’s naughty or nice list this year.

The public can choose one of three choices: the ‘naughty list,’ the ‘nice list’ and the ‘naughty, but put them on the nice list because they are so adorable.’

Keepers note that the Zoo’s penguins can be some of the most challenging animals to work with in terms of feeding and cleaning up after the animals.

“Penguins are so naughty - I get chased, they flog me with their wings, and almost every day they bite me,” said Keiko Sampson, zookeeper.

Animal Curator Chad Comer noted penguins may be frustrated because they are a bird that can’t fly.

Questions as to what Santa may give the penguins if they were put on either list went unanswered after repeated attempts to contact him failed.

The Blank Park Zoo is open daily all winter long, 10am to 3pm. The penguin exhibit is currently open and will remain as weather allows. The Zoo will be closed on December 24, 25 & January 1.
