How you can support conservation at Blank Park Zoo
1.) Green practices, sustainable environmental behavior, protecting animals in the wild.
2.) In-situ conservation: conservation of wild populations of animals outside our zoo (can include local Iowa wildlife and international efforts, etc.)
Recently, we emailed you—our members—a survey about Blank Park Zoo’s conservation efforts. The questions were simple:
What do you see as the most important role of Blank Park Zoo?
Can you name any wildlife conservation projects the Zoo supports?
What conservation problem or effort is most important to you?
At what level do you prefer the Zoo support conservation wildlife projects (local, national, international)?
Did you know that $1.00 of your membership goes to directly support conservation?
Please name one conservation project that Blank Park Zoo’s Coins for Conservation helps.
We were encouraged by the positive feedback about the Zoo’s conservation efforts. We want to continue to share with you the importance of conservation as part of the Zoo’s mission, as well as how you can play a role.
As an accredited zoo of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, it is an integral part of our mission to support conservation of animal wildlife and their habitats. As a member, Zoo visitor or donor, you are helping support this mission.
Did you know that Blank Park Zoo has had the honor of being selected among hundreds of zoos and aquariums internationally as an organization committed to conservation? We are excited to host the 2013 Zoos and Aquariums: Committing to Conservation (ZACC) conference July 8-12, 2013. This conference encourages increased involvement of zoos and aquariums in support of field conservation – locally, nationally and internationally.
It is our goal to connect you to these efforts and keep you updated on how you help the Zoo further our conservation mission. Stay tuned for more blog posts from our Conservation Corner, which will include:
- Tips on how you can support conservation and go green at home
- Ways you can help Blank Park Zoo improve our conservation efforts & get involved

And so much more. How would you like to help Blank Park Zoo improve our conservation efforts? What would you like to learn?
