Volunteers help Blank Park Zoo with over 500 hours of labor in an afternoon.

For Immediate Release

DES MOINES, Iowa (December 22, 2010) – Over 150 employees of John Deere Financial based in many regions of the United States spent the afternoon of November 17 at Iowa’s Blank Park Zoo helping with work projects.

“In an afternoon we were able to accomplish many projects that have been on a ‘to do’ list for a long time,” said Mark Vukovich, Blank Park Zoo CEO. “We want to thank John Deere Financial for their incredible help and work ethic.”

The projects ranged from scraping, painting, raking to cleaning up and throwing away tons of debris. One group constructed a conservation project called a chimney swift tower, which will provide a home to chimney swifts, a bird with a declining population in Iowa.

“Volunteerism provides a great way to share the time and talent of our employees,” said Dan McCabe, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing at John Deere Financial. “We were able to help improve the quality of life in our community with the activities and improvements planned that will bring many smiles to young and old alike as they find a connection with animals who call Blank Park Zoo home.”

This year the non-profit Blank Park Zoo relied on over 11,000 volunteer hours to help complete its mission of conservation, education and recreation. The Zoo uses volunteers for many tasks including train engineers, special events, education docents, and horticulture. To learn more how to volunteer at the Blank Park Zoo, visit
