Winter days at Blank Park Zoo
What is a winter day like at Blank Park Zoo?
As you might think, the recent snowfall and cold weather makes caring for outside animals more difficult for the keepers here at the Zoo. They put in a lot of hard work and dedication to care for our animals -- and some are put on exhibit for you to enjoy year round! In fact, some animals that are adapted to northern environments exhibit behaviors only seen at this time of year. Japanese snow monkeys, snow leopards, seals and sea lions, tigers and lions (and more!) are out almost daily.
Miya the baby snow monkey enjoys her first taste of snow. Gah! So cute. :)
The flamingos frolick in the pond and fresh snowfall.
During the winter, while some animals are off exhibit, the Zoo stays open from 10 am to 4 pm daily and offers reduced winter rates for non-members. (As a member, every day is free! And, you qualify for our winter membership challenge.) It is quite peaceful to walk around with fewer crowds and see the active animals at play. And, you can warm up in the indoor tropics of the Discovery Center.
Have you ever wondered what the animals are like during the winter? Do you have any questions you'd like to ask our keepers about our animals? Tell us in the comments below or send an email to email@example.com. You might see your questions answered in a future blog post!
