Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge & Pella
Monday, July 8, 2013
This pre-conference trip explores central Iowa. The first stop? Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. This 8,654 acre refuge has a state-of-the-art visitor center surrounded by prairies and miles of winding, paved trails. You’ll have 1.5 hours for your adventures, and then a refuge staff member will hop the bus for a drive through the 740-acre bison/elk enclosure.
The second stop will provide you with a taste of small-town Iowa. Pella is a picturesque Dutch village with a city square and quaint shops all around. During your 2 hours in Pella, enjoy a leisurely lunch on your own at one of many restaurants before visiting the windmills and shops.
