When will I receive my membership card(s)?

Your membership can take 1-3 weeks to process depending on the time of year. You will have the option to print a temporary pass when purchasing online. Please show proof of purchase and a valid photo ID at admissions if you have not yet received your cards.

Why do I need to show a photo ID?

As a nonprofit organization that relies on membership and attendance for support, we need to prevent misuse of our membership cards. We also want to protect members should their cards be lost or stolen.

How can I get new membership cards?

In the event that your cards are lost, stolen or you have a status change on your membership, there will be a replacement processing fee of $5 for two membership cards, $3 for one card. Please call 515-974-2600 for your new cards. You can get into the Zoo without your membership card by showing a valid photo ID.

Can I share my membership card?

Memberships are non-transferable. In an effort to keep our membership prices affordable for our guests, they are valid for the cardholders only. If families and neighbors shared memberships, our revenue would be greatly reduced. We depend on the funds of our memberships to continually improve your Zoo experience.

If you are interested in bringing a friend to the Zoo, consider upgrading to the family plus membership, which allows two extra guests in for free.

How can I apply my admission to my membership?

Please visit the Zoo’s membership desk or call 515-974-2600 within 10 days of your visit. A copy of your receipt will be required at the time of purchase.

Can I upgrade or change my membership?

Memberships cannot be downgraded. You may upgrade to a higher level or add on the Living History Farms and/or Science Center of Iowa depending on your time of renewal. With an upgrade, your expiration date will stay the same, and you must turn in your old membership cards. If you wish to downgrade or change your membership, you may do so at the time of renewal.

Please call the membership hotline at 515-974-2600 for more information and to upgrade or renew your membership early. If you are a current SCI or LHF member, please upgrade through your current membership location.

Out-of-state memberships are good for Zoo memberships only.

Someone who purchases a membership 90 miles outside of their residence will not be honored at participating ASTC museums.

Is my membership tax deductible?

The IRS makes a distinction between making contributions to a nonprofit and paying membership fees and dues. Donations to a designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit can simply be deducted from your taxes. However, if your contribution entitles you to merchandise, goods or services, you can deduct only the amount that exceeds the fair market value of the benefit received.

By receiving benefits as part of your membership, you must subtract this amount from your membership dues when claiming a deduction on your taxes. Depending on your membership level , a portion may be tax deductible.

Please consult your tax specialist or visit www.irs.gov for more information.
