Blank Park Zoo’s Plant.Grow.Fly. is continuing the effort to help our native pollinators. We are honored to partner with Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge (NSNWR) and People for Pollinators to plant pollinator habitat at the Zoo!
This year, NSNWR donated around 1900 native prairie plugs to the Zoo. With the help of volunteers, the plants were distributed in three different areas around the Zoo to create much needed wildlife habitat.
These native plantings will take a few years to grow, but once these plants mature, the flowers and grasses will attract a variety of pollinators, helping improve local populations of bees and butterflies.
Some say prairie plantings “sleep” the first year, “creep” the second year, and “leap” the third year. It will be exciting to watch the beautiful gardens grow!
We would also like to thank Happy Medium and Wells Fargo for helping us plant these important plants!
