Under supervision, to perform a variety of tasks related to animal care, conservation efforts, grounds and maintenance of zoo facilities.
The Blank Park Zoo is looking for a part time Small Mammal animal keeper with a wide variety of skills. Candidate must have great communication skills, both verbal and written. The animal keeper will work with red pandas, wallabies, tamarins, fruit bats, and a variety of domestic hoof stock. Keeper must be willing to assist with minor upkeep of each building, exhibit, and develop a good working relationship with maintenance, vet, and behavior training staff.
The animal keeper must be able to work with and collaborate with supervisor to achieve common husbandry expectations. Animal keeper will need to assist with and follow veterinary treatments and instructions. Normal duties will also include day to day animal husbandry, documenting information in a daily report regarding the day’s events, while working with fellow keepers to meet goals set by the supervisor.
May be assigned animal care interns, seasonal staff or volunteers.

Completion of two years of college with major course work in biology, zoology, or related natural science and one year of experience in the care of animals in a zoological setting OR any equivalent combination in which education and experience are interchangeable at the rate of one year of education for one year of experience.
Ability to understand written reports and animal data collection.
Ability to participate in research projects, write appropriate articles, communicate with colleagues, present findings at conferences.
All normal computer business skills (Microsoft office) required
Understanding of modern zoological management, ability to research all applicable topics.
Iowa motor vehicle license
