Reports To: Maintenance & Hospitality Manager
Status:  Non Exempt

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under supervision of the Maintenance & Hospitality Manager, to perform a variety of tasks related to hospitality and maintenance operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

On the hospitality side duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning public areas and restrooms
  • Set-up and clean-up for events and rentals
  • Emptying trash cans and recycling
  • Keeping the zoo grounds clean
  • Assisting with guest questions or emergencies

On the maintenance side: duties include, but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance (preventative and repairs) of all systems and buildings at the zoo including electric, plumbing, carpentry, metalwork, and vehicles.
  • Operation of skid loaders and other equipment 
  • Working closely with Animal Care, Horticulture, Guest Services, Special Events, Education and Office staff to help insure smooth operations at the zoo 
  • Snow and ice removal (on call) – maintain safety of the zoo grounds, walkways, parking lots and driveways during inclement weather

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ability to handle a flexible workload with a variety of assignments
  2. Must be able to operate independently, exercise initiative and demonstrate capacity for detail and follow-up.
  3. Must be able to maintain work hours that will serve the needs of the foundation such as working weekends, holidays, special events and evenings.
  4. Must be a positive, effective team member and be able to establish professional working relationships with guests, co-workers and all zoo staff.
  5. Previous work experience in maintenance preferred.
  6. Must be 18 years or older
  7. Ability to pass background check

Ability to understand goal setting, task completion and prioritization.

COMPUTER SKILLS

All normal computer business skills (Microsoft office) required

CERTIFICATES

Valid motor vehicle license.
