HullabaZoo: June 4-6, June 16-20, June 30-July 2, July 7-11 OR August 11-13

  • Big Idea: Blank Park Zoo is an influential leader, trusted voices and resource for the community.
  • Guiding Questions: Why do you love the zoo? What do people that work at the zoo do?
Learning Outcomes

Children will DISCOVER…

1. The importance of Blank Park Zoo’s role in connecting the public with nature.
2. Some of the different jobs required to operate the Zoo.
3. Why they love Blank Park Zoo.

Children will CONNECT…

1. With pride for the zoo, the animals that live here, and the people that work here.
2. With empathy and appreciation for the animals that call Blank Park Zoo home and the staff that work here.
3. With curiosity about science and nature and how those relate to the Zoo.

Children will TAKE ACTION by…

1. Telling others what they love about the zoo.
2. Practicing environmental stewardship through actions such as planting native plants, creating animal habitats in their own backyards, and being a role model for respecting nature.
3. Seeing themselves in the differ roles at the Zoo and as future wildlife heroes.

 


Animals Have Class: June 9-13, July 14-18 OR July 28-August 1

  • Big Idea: There is an enormous diversity in the types of organisms that inhabit earth at any one time – some very similar to one another and some very different.
  • Guiding Question: What characteristics are useful for sorting animals?
Learning Outcomes

Children will DISCOVER…

1. Ways that animals are different from other living and non-living things.
2. How scientists can group and organize animals based on “like traits.”
3. Vocabulary that scientists use for classifying or sorting animals.

Children will CONNECT…

1. With excitement to explore the Zoo and see real-life examples of the different animal classes.
2. With empathy for wildlife and the struggles they face in nature.
3. With curiosity about science and nature.

Children will TAKE ACTION by…

1. Observing nature and identifying traits that help us better understand the world around us. 
2. Practicing responsible environmental stewardship in ways that help organism diversity such as planting native plants, creating habitats in their own backyard, and being a role model for respecting nature.
3. Sharing what they learned and experiences with others.

 


Tundra Trek: June 23-27, July 21-25 OR August 4-8

  • Big Idea: There is a great diversity in the types of ecosystems around the world.
  • Guiding Question: How are habitats alike and different?
Learning Outcomes

Children will DISCOVER…

1. Types of animals that live in tundra and mountain habitats.
2. What it might feel like to live in a tundra or mountain habitat.
3. Similarities and differences between habitats.

Children will CONNECT…

1. With excitement to observe animals. 
2. With empathy and appreciation for wildlife that live in tundra and mountain habitats. 
3. With curiosity about how animals survive and thrive in tundra and mountain conditions.

Children will TAKE ACTION by…

1. Sharing what they learned and experiences with others to be advocates for wildlife.
2. Continuing to learn about far off places through books and other types of media. 
3. Visiting wild spaces and organizations that support the environment.
