Spring Safari Camps are offered for children ages five to nine years during the Des Moines Public Schools scheduled spring break.
Play Partners - Discover how zookeepers use different kinds of toys and treats to keep animals healthy and active and encourage natural behaviors. This week, we will learn all about enrichment at the zoo and why play and exploration is important for all animals – even us humans! We will make some special toys/treats to help keep the animals active and interested this spring and will also discover fun nature activities we can do outdoors this summer to keep ourselves busy and curious too!
Children are required to either bring a sack lunch or purchase a zoo lunch. The cost of a zoo lunch is $18 for the three days. Single day lunch purchases are not available. Please note that refrigeration for lunches will not be provided. The menu is as follows and is tentative and subject to change:
Monday: Hot Dog, Chips, and Fruit
Tuesday: Pizza, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Fruit
Wednesday: Chicken Strips, Fries, and Fruit
Campers will receive a morning and an afternoon snack each day (included as part of camp registration-no extra fee). Snacks might include items such as: bananas, Mandarin oranges, Goldfish crackers, or fruit snacks (these items are tentative, subject to change, and vary from day to day).
***Food items containing nuts are not served during camp. However, we cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. Camp kids often bring their own lunch items containing nuts, and nuts are a regular part of our animal diets. Please disclose all participant food allergies during registration. To discuss concerns or request special accommodations, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 515-974-2556.
Check-in begins at 8:50 a.m. at Admissions.
For the safety of your children, we will only release your child to the person/s you list as authorized on your registration. If there are emergencies/last-minute changes, please notify instructors at check-in or call 515-974-2588. Please note, a photo ID is required for pick up.
Please dress children in close-toed, comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Layers are encouraged as mornings may start out chilly and then warm up in the afternoon.
