Winter Days Animal Care Series -Animal Husbandry Day

February 2, 2019, 10:45 AM - 2:00 PM

Have you ever imagined yourself working at a Zoo?  Have you ever wondered what the keepers, veterinarians, and nutritionist do to help the animals in our care?  This winter is your chance to not only imagine it, but to learn more about these areas and practice the skills needed to work in Animal Care at the Zoo.

This winter Blank Park Zoo will be hosting a series of activities that will give guests the opportunity to learn more about animal care career opportunities. Take your imagination to the next step and join us this winter and engage with keepers, veterinarians, animal nutritionist, and volunteers.

Take action to save animals in the wild from extinction by attending the Zoo this winter– IMAGINE THAT.

February 2 – Animal Husbandry Day
10:45 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Imagine you are one of Blank Park Zoo’s animal keepers.  What activities do you do on a daily basis to properly care for the Zoo’s animals? If you ever wanted to know more about being a zookeeper or wanted to learn how the animals are cared for, this is the event for you.

Learn, See and Do Activities:

  • See a display of the ‘day in the life of a zookeeper.’ What is their daily ‘to do’ list? What equipment do they need to accomplish this?
  • Participate in activities that will show you how animals can adapt to the different seasons.
  • Watch a public feeding of the Pacu. How do we keep the water healthy for our fish?
  • Watch a training demonstration with one of Blank Park Zoo’s educational animals at 10:45 a.m. and then watch a seal and sea lion training demonstration.
  • Play area: daily activities and tasks of a zookeeper
