Did you know that some of the animals at Blank Park Zoo can be seen in the wild in Iowa as well? Meet Bamboo, the newest river otter to call Blank Park Zoo home. These playful creatures can be found frolicking in the rivers all throughout Iowa and the greater Midwest. However, that was not always the case. Otter population numbers had been dropping towards a concerning number, but thanks to the research and breeding efforts of zoos, that trend has been curbed, and populations are returning to a more stable level.
Species conservation isn't the only reason you may see some familiar faces in zoos. Accredited zoos like Blank Park play a key role in rehabilitation as well. All too often animals find themselves injured in the wild, and deemed unable to return. Zoos play a key role in providing them a safe home with expert veterinary care so they can live out a happy and healthy life. Animals such as the American bald eagles, Pacific harbor seals, and California sea lions are just a few examples of these rehab stories at Blank Park Zoo.
As we approach the end of our year, we ask that you consider a gift to Blank Park Zoo so we may continue to preserve populations of species in our own backyard, and provide a safe haven for injured animals. Please consider a donation today by clicking here.
Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful holiday season.
