Three Blank Park Zoo animals are now vying to be the next mayor of the zoo!
After an engaging primary round held during the zoo’s Safari Soirée gala on September 5, 2024, the top three candidates have emerged including Oscar the North American porcupine, Deuce the African lion and Kitsi the Japanese macaque.
Oscar: At 6 years old, Oscar stands out with his engaging personality and role in the zoo’s Ambassador program. When not on the road, he charms visitors at the Critter Corner and during special events. As the candidate that is one in a QUILLion, Oscar’s campaign says he is eager to enhance the zoo's educational impact.
Deuce: At 13 years old, Deuce plans to mane-tain strength and leadership for the zoo. Known for his powerful presence in the Great Cats area, Deuce is rallying support for the zoo’s "Expand the Impact" campaign. His vision includes new habitats and expanded spaces for lions, tigers, and other species, demonstrating his commitment to the zoo’s growth and improvement.
Kitsi: At 18 years old, Kitsi represents experience and wisdom. There's no monkey business he can't handle. As part of the AZA Species Survival Plan, Kitsi’s focus on conservation and the preservation of his species highlights his dedication to the long-term health of the zoo’s animal population.
The election is not only about choosing a new Zoo Mayor but also about supporting the zoo’s mission to inspire an appreciation of the natural world through conservation, education, research, and recreation. The money raised through voting goes directly back into the zoo's efforts to make a positive impact on wildlife and the environment.
